Nitro Fuel Safety Tips

Nitro Fuel:

there are three main components to Nitro fuel: methanol, nitromethane, and oil along with some additives such as an anti-corrosion agent or even degumming agents all added by the fuel manufacturer. The nitromethane that is used delivers oxygen to the engine, thus enhancing combustion and ultimately delivering more power. At the same time, the oil lubricates and helps to keep the engine cool. Though the methanol is the most abudant component, the percentage of nitromethanein the mix determines the rate the nitro fuel.

 

Fueling: WARNING

Nitromethane (nitro fuel) is VERY flammable. Avoid smoking and any open flames around the nitro fuel for your RC. When you are fueling your nitro RC, be sure to wipe up any spills and properly dispose of fuel-soaked rags for personal safety and envirnomental safety. Check with fuel manufacuters for proper disposal of fuel containers too.

 

Handling:

Whetere you are at the track or race park it is common to see others carry fuel in a quick-fill-type bottle. To help insure that you do not get some of your fuel mixed up with another person's fuel label your fuel bottle with your name. This is especially true if you are running different mixtures, and If you are running multiple RCs with different fuel mix personally, try to color-code your bottles to avoid "mix"-ups.

 

Storage:

Just like storing regular vehicle gas cans at home, be sure to store your nitro fuel away from open flames (like hot water heater with a lit pilot light), and in a a ventalated area. Make sure the container is tightly capped to avoid any evaporation. Store yur fuel in a adry location as as the fuel tends to attract moisture. Any water in the fuel will make it become weak and water entering the engine could be harmful to your engine.
